The window was designed by Alan Younger and dedicated by the Lord Bishop of Coventry on 1st June 1997.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>During 2017-2019 major<\/strong> stonemasonry work took place to repair the walls of the church, with all 10 nave window surrounds on both south and north side being fully replaced with new harder stone to prevent eventual collapse due to poor weathering of the original 18th Century stone.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>The church wall repairs<\/strong> provided an opportunity in 2021 to rework the churchyard garden for easier maintenance, clearing excess shrubbery that impeded wall ventilation, returfing parts of the south green, and on the north green providing more seating for those many folk who enjoy the tranquillity of the churchyard within its busy town centre.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>The church doors<\/strong> are regularly repainted to keep them tidy. In 2022 the south west nave doors nearest the High Street had to be replaced with a new pair, the originals having deteriorated beyond further maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022<strong> Frequent repairs<\/strong> are made to the church boundary wall including replacement of perished bricks and stone and repointing joints. The north foot-gate by the town hall has had both its piers rebuilt in 2014 and 2019, one fitted with a new cap stone.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>The floodlights<\/strong> provided by the churchyard team in 2002 to enhance the view of the church from the town at night were replaced in 2022 by low energy LED units, substantially reducing church electricity costs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The churchyard team<\/strong> continue meet on a monthly basis, with individual volunteers spending many hours keeping the beautiful garden tidy.<\/p>\n<p>More information about the church can be found on the Alcester Minster Churches website <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alcesterminster.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.alcesterminster.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text disabled_on=&#8221;on|on|on&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.20.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; header_font=&#8221;||||||||&#8221; header_text_color=&#8221;#595bfb&#8221; header_2_text_color=&#8221;#595bfb&#8221; header_5_font=&#8221;|700|||||||&#8221; header_5_text_color=&#8221;#595bfb&#8221; custom_margin=&#8221;||||false|false&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;||||false|false&#8221; disabled=&#8221;on&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h1><strong><em>St Nicholas Church<\/em><\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>The floodlights provided by the churchyard team in 2002 were replaced in 2022 by LEDs to substantially reduce church electricity consumption costs. Tempus fugit!<br \/>During 2017-2019 all 10 nave window frames both south and north side were fully replaced with new stone to prevent collapse due to poor weathering of the old stone.<br \/>On completion the churchyard garden was reworked for easier maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>In 1996, the entrance to the grounds of St. Nicholas Church underwent a major transformation by the way of a new drive of York Stone and a new notice board. During 1997 further improvements and additions were completed as listed below:<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 20px;\">\n<p><strong>a)<\/strong> The gift to the church of a memorial window by the family of a much loved rector and his wife, John Emrys-Jones and Marise Emrys-Jones. The window which was designed by Alan Younger and fitted by public donations was dedicated by the Lord Bishop of Coventry on June 1st.<\/p>\n<p><strong>b)<\/strong> The refurbishment of the four remaining windows along the south aisle which had become unsafe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>c)<\/strong> Repairs to the church boundary wall including replacement of the perished bricks and stone and complete pointing up of joints.<\/p>\n<p><strong>d)<\/strong> Refurbishment and painting of the church doors which had become untidy. Over the past few years the churchyard has been transformed from a plain, bland and typical churchyard to a well maintained garden.
